My So Called City Life

i'm glad you're here. alyssa, eighteen years young. i call Atlanta "home." i spent the summer in Miami, and i have just started my new life in NYC, studying fashion merchandising and trying to find my place in this world. i'm keeping up with this (hopefully) for anyone who cares and, more importantly, for myself. because i know these are times i'm not going to want to forget. big cities give me a feeling i can't explain-- the fashion, the food, the lifestyle.... i have so much to see and experience. it's only the beginning.
→ just ask.

Guess what, tumblr world!? I am in fact alive and still living this “so called city life.” While I may lack a personal photographer who follows me along the streets of NYC and takes glamorous pictures of my outfits, I do have an iPhone and a little app called Instagram. Thus, while I have failed to update this blog, I have nonetheless been putting together some outfits and living my life as a fashion student. So, in order to make up for lost time, I shall bombard you with pictures. Ready, set, selfies!

this past weekend, i had the great pleasure of meeting Leandra Medine, fashion and comedy genius behind the blog The Man Repeller, at a super chic store in South Beach called The Webster. i was so lucky to be here in miami as Leandra hosted this meet-and-greet event. she had enchanting conversations and snapped photos with individual fans, not to mention being surrounded by some of the most amazing designer clothing i’ve ever witnessed. i can’t begin to explain how amazing it was to meet someone who’s blog i’ve been following religiously since i can remember. she was so friendly, well-spoken, and down-to-earth, i just wanted to invite her out to lunch at chat her up forever! girl crush doesn’t begin to explain it! Leandra just oozes coolness.

it’s truly refreshing to know that there are such young, smart, and creative minds in the industry like Leandra. she’s an inspiration, to say the least. keep an eye out for her book, and if you haven’t already been sucked into her blog, it’s about time you check it out (you’ll laugh out loud, guaranteed)!

sewinginstilettos asked: where do you study fashion merchandising? I'm looking into going to FIT, Parsons, or Pratt next year :)

i study at LIM College :) it’s more focused on the business side of fashion. those are all great schools! i love your work. good luck :)

i have a thing for old people. it’s like, they’ve gotten to the point where they might as well be who they are, fully, and to the extreme. i think we all hope to become this comfortable with ourselves and to embrace our personal styles to this degree. these fashionistas make the wrinkles seem not so bad after all. but who says you have to be old to be fabulously you?

It’s been a while…

Hello all! I know it’s been a while since I updated. I finished out my first semester of college with all A’s and I’m beginning working my first full time job at Anthropologie! It’s super exciting; retail is no joke! Anyway, click below to view the magazine my group and I created for the final project in one of my classes. It’s called Bloganista; it’s a “dummie” magazine dedicated to the world of blogging and social media in fashion. I wish something like this really existed! The whole site, issuu.com, is super fun to explore as well. Hopefully I’ll be back with an outfit post soon! Till then… Enjoy!
